Questions

From what age can a child start?

The course for the youngest starts at kindergarten age. The levelled programme, volumes one to twelve, is designed from age 6 upwards — with no upper limit: there are adults in the classroom too.

Which day are lessons, and where?

Lessons are at the weekend: Saturdays in Varese, Sundays in Busto Arsizio, full day from 9:00 to 16:00. Both campuses are minutes from the station.

My child already speaks Chinese at home. Where do they start?

With a short placement test. It puts each student at the right level from day one: a child who speaks but does not write does not start from scratch, and a complete beginner is not left behind.

Which textbook do you use?

The Zhongwen (中文) series, in twelve volumes — the standard textbook for Chinese schools overseas, covering everything from the first character to an advanced level.

What is the HSK, and is it worth taking?

The HSK (汉语水平考试) is the international standardised test of Chinese proficiency for non-native speakers. It is the most direct way to turn years of study into a certificate universities and employers recognise. The school prepares students at every level.

Is it only language?

No. Alongside Chinese there is calligraphy, recitation and public speaking, singing, art, mathematics and coding. Students also enter competitions each year: composition, recitation, Chinese characters, painting.

Can someone without Chinese heritage enrol?

Of course. There is a Chinese-as-a-second-language track, as well as one-to-one and tailored courses and business Chinese. And, in the other direction, Italian for foreigners.

How do I enrol?

Fill in the enrolment form on this site, or get in touch. We will come back to you to arrange the placement test and suggest the right level.

Is there a meal service?
Yes: on lesson days the school offers a hot lunch by monthly subscription, for students who stay all day. Sign up at the office.
Is there homework help?
Yes, our homework help: students do their schoolwork with a teacher on hand, on lesson days.
Can I attend online?
Some courses are also held online, by video call: it is our third campus, open since 2020. Ask us which classes are available this year.
Are there discounts?
Yes: reductions apply, for example for siblings or for attending more than one course. The office works out the best combination at enrolment.
How do I follow my child's progress?
Every family has access to the school's reserved area: report cards, attendance and teachers' notes arrive there, besides in-person meetings.
How do I pay the fees?
By bank transfer, card or at the office. Every payment comes with a regular invoice; on request the fee can be split into instalments.
What are the school contests?
Every year the school runs its own contests: the China-Italy Cup (recitation, singing), the composition contest and the Cangjie characters Cup. They are celebrations first, competitions second.
